Can the tenant register in the rental apartment?

  • Updated

The tenant has the right to register in the rented apartment, and the landlord's consent is not needed. To submit an application for registration at the Community Office, they must present a document confirming the right to the premises, i.e. a lease contract.

It does not mean it acquires additional rights to dispose of the apartment. Therefore, this does not change the ownership status of the property.

If the tenant intends to stay at a given address for more than three months, then they have the right but also an obligation to register.

The tenant must also check out at the end of the agreement. According to Art. 35 of the Population Register Act, if they fail to do so, the flat's owner may submit an application to the Community Office for de-registration.
